Every summer presents a new opportunity for our sisters to find purpose and success in all that they do. Many choose to participate in internships all around the world. Here are what some of our Upsilon Lambda sisters are up to this summer.
Alex is interning at a research fellowship at the University of Toledo (UT), which is funded by the National Science Foundation. She is working with the detection and quantification of bacterial toxins in Lake Erie. She is with a group that is trying to develop a better method of measurement of the toxins. She is working with a UT professor who proposed the project as well as a grad student mentor. Alex is expected to help with experimental design, help write up the project papers, assist in the laboratory process, and set up any meetings or information needed to carry out their experiments.
Marian is interning in Quito, Ecuador at a Children's Hospital.
Millie is working at Glida's Club in Louisville, which is a non-profit organization that helps anyone who is impacted by cancer. The club has multiple locations throughout the country and offers many different programs to assist in the cancer healing process. Millie is primarily working with the youth coordinator on planning the youth camp, which is a week long day camp for pediatric cancer patients and their siblings. She also assists with organizing other teen outings that have been impacted by cancer.
Brittany is interning at the Hope House Christian Counseling Center this summer in Sinking Springs, Ohio. She is shadowing the head psychologist and also works on marketing for the organization.
Emily has two internships this summer. She is working at Hoosier Hills Credit Union where she is a bank teller. When there, she works with the other members of the bank to make sure they execute the best service and care the credit union has to offer. Her second internship is at the City of Bedford Parks Department where she is a receptionist/office assistant. Emily helps manage and book all their venues for their events.
Katie is interning at Fuzion Analytics this summer in human resources. She is responsible for planning different service projects that the company will participate in. She also helps go through resumes of potential employees. Katie also activity helps make a video that reflects the culture of Fuzion Analytics.
Cami is working for IU Health Community Outreach Engagement program at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. The programs mission is seeking to understand the biggest health needs in Indiana. They also want to help create programs that help Hoosiers with their health needs. So far, Cami has coordinated the volunteer website and IU Health's website, done research on schools with schools significant number of students who qualify for free/reduced lunches. She has also helped expand IU Health's internal volunteer program.
Cassie is doing an internship in Guayaquil and Puyo, Ecuador. It is a medical shadowing internship with child Family Health International. She shadows doctors at a hospital while staying with a local family. She also participates in taking medical terminology Spanish classes. Cassie is also participating in remote village visits with physicians by hiking into the Amazon.
