Activities
Participation in Activities develops us into well-rounded people.  We engage with others to develop outside interests and expose us to new and differing points of view.   By contributing in the larger world, we demonstrate that Chi Omega makes a difference in the lives of women.

Our Story
It all began on April 5, 1895, at the University of Arkansas when four young women, with the help of a local dentist, established the secrets and symbolism that today bind over 260,000 women. This small band of women founded Chi Omega after realizing a need for an organization that would foster both friendship and respect for the potential and inherent value of women. Over the years, Chi Omega has provided its members with unique opportunities in leadership, scholarship, and lifelong friendship - striving to provide each Sister with a commitment to personal integrity, excellence in academic and intellectual pursuits, intergenerational participation, community service, leadership opportunities and social enrichment.

The Beta Theta Chapter at The University of South Alabama was installed on March 29, 1969.  Since then, Chi Omega has risen to be the most diverse group of women on campus.  This chapter has won the University Dean's Cup consecutively for the past 13 years.  The Dean's Cup is the highest award in Greek life on South's campus.

Scholarship
Sincere Learning and Creditable Scholarship means that we care about our intellectual development.  We embrace the spirit and excitement of learning throughout our lives and encourage others to better themselves.
Service
Community Service means that we want to make a difference on our campuses and in our communities.  We know that giving back to others unselfishly makes the world a better place and makes us better people.   Serving and giving helps to connect us.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is our national philanthropy.  This year, we raised $11,750 for Make-A-Wish.  Part of the money sponsored a little girl's wish from Saraland, AL.  The little girl, Emma, is 4, and she has Pre B ALL, which is Leukemia, or cancer of the blood. She wishes to go to DisneyWorld and be a princess, so she'll have an appointment at Bibbiti Bobbiti Boutique where Fairy Godmothers will style her hair, paint her nails and dress her up in a Princess Gown. Her mom, stepdad and 6 year old brother will accompany Princess Emma during her stay at Give Kids The World.

Songfest, the longest running tradition on the University of South Alabama's campus. is our annual fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In addition, our chapter also help Make-A-Wish by throwing "Wish Granting" parties for children whose wishes will soon be fulfilled.

In addition, the Beta Theta chapter participates in various philanthrophic events throughout the Mobile area. These include Coastal Clean-up, Art for the Heart, MSPCA Pet Adoptions, the College of Medicine Gumbo/Chili Showdown, Relay for Life, MLK day of Service, Ronald Mcdonald House, Prodisee House Food Pantry, and many more.

Below are pictures from Songfest and other community service projects:

Welcome
A Letter from the President:

On behalf of the Beta Theta Chapter of Chi Omega, welcome to our chapter website! It is such an exciting time to be a Chi Omega at the University of South Alabama. Last year, we celebrated our 40th anniversary on campus by unveiling our 50th year gift to the university: the Chi Omega Amphitheater at the Alumni Bell Tower Complex. This beautiful structure will be dedicated to the university in Fall of 2010. The Beta Theta Chapter continues the excellence that the Chi Omega Fraternal organization has achieved for 115 years. The 6 purposes of Chi Omega are:
  • Friendship
  • High Standards of Personnel
  • Sincere Learning and Creditable Scholarship
  • Participation in Campus Activities
  • Career Development
  • Community Service
Our chapter excels in every purpose! Beta Theta sisters can be found on campus in numerous clubs, leadership positions, and honor societies. Once again, the sisters of Beta Theta are proud to hold the highest sorority GPA at USA for the Fall 2009 semester. The actives had a combined GPA of 3.38! At the 2009 Songfest competition benefiting the Make-A-Wish foundation, our chapter raised $11, 750 towards the granting of children's wishes. We truly are flourishing at South Alabama!

Aside from the achievements of our chapter, we pride ourselves on the sisterhood and friendships we have with our fellow sisters. If I have learned anything in my 3 years of college, it is that Chi Omega is the greatest gift a college girl can receive!

Loyally,

Mary Kate Bryant
