High Standards
Sisterhood and High Standards means that we are women of integrity and good character.  We have high expectations for ourselves and for our Sisters.  We strive daily to be role models to others.

DSC03221.JPG

"To be womanly always, to be discouraged never..." Despite the fact that these words were composed more than a century ago as part of the Chi Omega symphony, our members still stand by them today. Chi Omegas never settle for mediocrity but are dedicated to the betterment of themselves and constantly aspire to set a positive example for young women everywhere. Through the teachings of our six purposes and the continuous reinforcement of Chi Omega's founding principles, each and every one of our members will leave this chapter flourishing and prepared to take on the world with unwavering dignity, style and grace.

Chi Omega's Six Purposes are:

Friendship

High Standards of Personnel

Sincere Learning and Creditable Scholarship

Participation in Campus Activities

Career Development

Our Story
It all began on April 5, 1895, at the University of Arkansas when four young women, with the help of a local dentist, established the secrets and symbolism that today bind over 260,000 women. This small band of women founded Chi Omega after realizing a need for an organization that would foster both friendship and respect for the potential and inherent value of women. Over the years, Chi Omega has provided its members with unique opportunities in leadership, scholarship, and lifelong friendship - striving to provide each Sister with a commitment to personal integrity, excellence in academic and intellectual pursuits, intergenerational participation, community service, leadership opportunities and social enrichment.
Recruitment
Chi Omega is FUN! Every year, over 5,000 young women across America join the largest women’s fraternity in the world for sisterhood and lifelong friendships.199257_10150109322039336_502544335_6051668_1865519_n-1.jpg

Welcome to Recruitment 2011! We are so excited that you are interested in sorority recruitment at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

We invite you to get to know our wonderful sisters of Chi Omega.
The women of Chi Omega are impressively well-rounded.  They have found a balance between fun and friendship, academics, and a wide range of activities both on and off campus.  The strong reputation of Chi Omegas extends well beyond the University of Nebraska.  We all found a home at Chi Omega the instant we walked through the big red door.  We have friends to share so many wonderful memories with for a lifetime.  We hope that you take the chance to get to know us a little through this website and during recruitment.
We are looking forward to seeing you in August!

Scholarship
Sincere Learning and Creditable Scholarship means that we care about our intellectual development.  We embrace the spirit and excitement of learning throughout our lives and encourage others to better themselves.
The women of Chi Omega strive to "place scholarship before social obligation" always, as is written the Chi Omega Symphony.

Kappa Chapter of CHI OMEGA has an all-house GPA of 3.56.  The Chi O's are consistently at the top of the all Greek, all-sorority and all-woman's GPA rankings.  For the fall 2011 semester, Chi O had the third highest GPA on campus.  Way to go CHI O!

The woman of Chi Omega have won numerous national awards for their scholastic achievements at the University of Nebraska Lincoln.

Dedication to academic excellence reaches beyond the borders of the UNL campus.  Many Chi O's spend time furthering their education by studying abroad.  Chi Omegas have been studying all around the world this summer in places like; Australia, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Greece, El Salvador, South Africa and India.  Many Chi Omega's go on to further their education by obtaining masters degrees, doctorates and by attending professional schools.  There are Chi Omega's in almost every profession.LAKELYN.jpg

Chi Omega has a long tradition of having members in UNL's adacemic honoraries - Mortar Board and Innocents Societies.  This year Chi Omega has 3 members of Innocents Society and 3 members of Mortar Board.

Service
Community Service means that we want to make a difference on our campuses and in our communities.  We know that giving back to others unselfishly makes the world a better place and makes us better people.   Serving and giving helps to connect us.

At the Kappa Chapter of Chi Omega, we hold two philanthropies every year.  We love that we get to include our friends and family in fun events that raise money for good causes.  Every fall we have our annual HalloWing Fling, where we serve hot wings until 2 a.m.  This year, our money benefited The Make-A-Wish Foundation, Chi Omega's national philanthropy.

In the spring, we hosted our first ever Chi O FroYo philanthropy at Red Mango.  We actually got to help serve delicious frozen yogurt to customers, our friends, and our families!  Our philanthropy brought over 1,275 people through the doors of Red Mango!  We raised money for a local mentoring program, TeamMates.

Sisters Flourish
Since 1895, six purposes have guided the direction of every Chi Omega chapter and brought its members unequaled opportunities for personal growth and development.  Today, these purposes are still valid for every Chi Omega.

Chi Omega's Six Purposes Are:
Friendship
High Standards of Personnel
Sincere Learning and Creditable Scholarship
Participation in Campus Activities
Career Development
Community Service

As sisters we flourish within all the purposes of Chi Omega.

FRIENDSHIP
At Kappa Chapter of Chi Omega, we grow our friendship through many different ways.  New members start their experience as sisters together in a semester long new member program.  You get a whole semester to get to know your new sisters and the sorority before joining.  There are so many great events during this first semester allowing you to start to create lifelong friendships.  New members enjoy participating in philanthropies together, like Queens of the Court, have lots of outings with actives, and enjoy many other events.  One of the highlights of the new member program is getting to know your "big sister" during the Big Sis/Lil Sis Reveal event.  Each new member receives a big sister and a family that are there to support you for your years as an active in Chi Omega and beyond.

As actives, we enjoy spending time together and growing our sisterhood.  One of our favorite ways to spend time together is during out numerous sisterhood events and social functions throughout the year.  Every year, we enjoy lots of terrific social functions with other fraternities and sororities.  From formals to theme parties, we have a lot of fun together.

SophGroup.jpgIMG_4156.jpg

We also enjoy events with our families.  We have special celebrations such as Dads Day, Moms Day and Siblings Day.  Parents and family members are always welcome at the Chi Omega House.  Football game days are a popular time for families to come and spend time at the house.

Symphony
The Chi Omega Symphony has reflected the purposes of Chi Omega members since its composition in 1904 by Ethel Switzer Howard on the eve of her initiation into the Xi Chapter of Chi Omega at Northwestern University.

The members of the Kappa Chapter of Chi Omega at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln work to embody the words of the symphony:

Chi Omega Symphony

To live constantly above snobbery of word or deed; to place scholarship before social obligations and character before appearances;

To be in the best sense,
democratic rather than 'exclusive', and lovable rather than 'popular';

To work
earnestly , to speak kindly , to act sincerely , to choose thoughtfully that course which occasion and conscience demand;

To be
womanly always; to be discouraged never; in a word, to be loyal under any and all circumstances to my Fraternity and her highest teachings and to have her welfare ever at heart that she may be a symphony of high purpose and helpfulness in which there is no discordant note.

Ethel Switzer Howard Xi - 1904
