Our Story
It all began on April 5, 1895, at the University of Arkansas when four young women, with the help of a local dentist, established the secrets and symbolism that today bind over 260,000 women. This small band of women founded Chi Omega after realizing a need for an organization that would foster both friendship and respect for the potential and inherent value of women. Over the years, Chi Omega has provided its members with unique opportunities in leadership, scholarship, and lifelong friendship - striving to provide each Sister with a commitment to personal integrity, excellence in academic and intellectual pursuits, intergenerational participation, community service, leadership opportunities and social enrichment.
The Psi Lambda Chapter of Chi Omega was founded in 1984 at Valdosta State University. This past year we celebrated our 25th year Anniversary at VSU. Over the years, Chi Omega at VSU has had many great accomplishments, some recent ones are:

1 in every 4 sorority girls is a Chi Omega.
Chi Omega is the 2nd largest women's organization in the US next to The Girl Scouts of America.
Chi Omega is the largest women's fraternal organization with 173 collegiate chapters, over 300,000 initiated member, and approximately 16,000 active collegiate members each year.
Chi Omega is the only sorority that does not initiate until a member has made her grades. Scholarship should always come first. For this reason, we are proud that Chi Omega's national grade point average exceeds the national all women's GPA and national all sorority GPA.
