Make-A-Wish Foundation
The Make-A-Wish Foundation is Chi Omega Fraternity's National Philanthropy. Since the start of our alliance, Chi Omegas have made a difference in many children's lives through volunteering time, talents, and dollars. The Make-A-Wish Foundation has honored Chi Omega for the incredible volunteer efforts of our members.

Our chapter holds two events to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  In the fall, we have Wish Week. Local restaurants sponsor a day of the week to donate a portion of its sales to Make-A-Wish.  In the spring, we have King of the Wing, a chicken wing eating contest.  Chi Omega teams up with another sorority and two fraternities to raise money for our philanthropies.  This past year, we also had a silent auction at our Mother's Weekend brunch which raised nearly $2,000 alone!

Many of our sisters are trained as Wish Granters and have the opportunity to work directly with Wish families and children in granting wishes.  Every year, about 20 new Sigma Alphas attend the training in Cincinnati to become even more involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  The experiences that come from working these amazing children and families touches the hearts and impacts the lives of our chapter members.

Our Story
It all began on April 5, 1895, at the University of Arkansas when four young women, with the help of a local dentist, established the secrets and symbolism that today bind over 260,000 women. This small band of women founded Chi Omega after realizing a need for an organization that would foster both friendship and respect for the potential and inherent value of women. Over the years, Chi Omega has provided its members with unique opportunities in leadership, scholarship, and lifelong friendship - striving to provide each Sister with a commitment to personal integrity, excellence in academic and intellectual pursuits, intergenerational participation, community service, leadership opportunities and social enrichment.

The Sigma Alpha chapter of Chi Omega was founded on January 4, 1913 and since then has touched the lives of countless Miami women.  Here at Miami we are well respected and strive to be involved on campus and in the classroom. Chi Omega is proud to consistently rank among the top sororities in grades and we are passionate about our philanthropy, the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Chi Omega hosts an annual fundraiser, King of the Wing, to raise money to grant wishes to children with life threatening illnesses. The incredible bond of Chi Omega extends from sisterhood activities to social events such as Chee-Omunga and Yippie Chi O.  The Chi Omega sisters are well-rounded women who value the importance of scholarship, philanthropy, social involvement, and sisterhood.

Chi Omega is truly a lifelong experience. The sisters you gain will quickly become the best friends you'll ever have. After graduation the bond will continue to grow as sisters become your bridesmaids and "aunts" to your children.

We believe a Chi Omega is not something you become, but is something you have always been.

Recruitment
Chi Omega is FUN! Every year, over 5,000 young women across America join the largest women’s fraternity in the world for sisterhood and lifelong friendships.

About 1/3 of Miami's student body is Greek- the largest student organization on campus!

Miami's sorority recruitment is held in the beginning of the spring semester.  Prospective new members will return to campus a week prior to the beginning of classes to begin the recruitment process.  Recruitment 2009 begins on January 8th, 2009 and will conclude with Bid Day on January 20th, 2009.
