Activities
Participation in Activities develops us into well-rounded people.  We engage with others to develop outside interests and expose us to new and differing points of view.   By contributing in the larger world, we demonstrate that Chi Omega makes a difference in the lives of women.

Omicron Betas are active around the William and Mary campus as RAs, OAs, Campus Tour Guides, Tribe Athletes, UCAB staff, international and domestic service team leaders and participants, and Student Alumni Council members, to name a few.  We would especially like to congratulate our sister Valerie Hopkins, the 2008-09 Student Assembly President.

Friendship
Friendship is what binds us to each other and to our Fraternity.  The friendships we develop in Chi Omega give us a home across geography and generations and give us lasting support throughout our lives.

At Omicron Beta we pride ourselves on the strength of our sisterhood. A diverse group of passionate women, we support each other through the highs and the lows of college life. We like to work hard but find time to play on the weekends through our date parties, mixers and formals.

Our Story
It all began on April 5, 1895, at the University of Arkansas when four young women, with the help of a local dentist, established the secrets and symbolism that today bind over 260,000 women. This small band of women founded Chi Omega after realizing a need for an organization that would foster both friendship and respect for the potential and inherent value of women. Over the years, Chi Omega has provided its members with unique opportunities in leadership, scholarship, and lifelong friendship - striving to provide each Sister with a commitment to personal integrity, excellence in academic and intellectual pursuits, intergenerational participation, community service, leadership opportunities and social enrichment.

Local Story :

A History of the Omicron Beta Chapter of Chi Omega: Until 1918 William and Mary had been solely for the collegiate instruction of men. In that year it was opened to women and twenty-four enrolled. This number has increased to almost two hundred by 1921. And it was in that year that Chi Omega entered the College as the first national fraternity for women on the campus. Omicron Beta, gave Chi Omega its third chapter in Virginia. Omicron Beta was installed by Vesta Lockwood Watson on May 30, 1921. The charter members of the group were as follows; Mary Peebles Wadsworth, Hortense Lewis, Theima Conley, Julia Green, Suzanne Garrett, Mrs. Dorothy M. Geiger, Mrs. Harriet Nichols Garrett, Elizabeth Margaret Smith, Martha Flippo, Charlotte M. Shipman, Margaret Bridges, and Bertha Brooks. Chi Omega's first house, used for meetings only, was a very , very old one, a small two-story brick house in which Patrick Henry was accustomed to stop during his attendance at the Virginia Legislature. The chapter now resides in a spacious home in Sorority Court across from Old Campus.

Recruitment
Chi Omega is FUN! Every year, over 5,000 young women across America join the largest women’s fraternity in the world for sisterhood and lifelong friendships.

Dear Potential New Members,
As any Greek woman at the College will tell you, Recruitment is definitely an exciting experience. bid day.jpg

As a Chi Omega, you can be an involved new member right from the start. You will get constant opportunities to have lunch and dinner dates with older sisters, participate in fraternities' philanthropy events, attend mixers and other social events, and learn all the different ways to get involved on campus. For us, joining Greek Life at William and Mary has enriched our entire college experience. We can't wait for you to feel the same way!

We encourage all women interested in joining W&M's Fall 2010 Recruitment to visit  the ISC Recruitment Website and register! GO GREEK!

Service
Community Service means that we want to make a difference on our campuses and in our communities.  We know that giving back to others unselfishly makes the world a better place and makes us better people.   Serving and giving helps to connect us.

Omicron Beta Philanthropy

Omicron Beta hosted their 5th Annual CHI O Karaoke in April of 2009. Various campus organizations formed teams to participate. The groups sang and danced their hearts out in front of their peers on the chiokaraoke.jpgstage of Lodge 1. A panel of "Celebrity" judges, including the beloved Mr. William and Mary '09, added their comedic take on the performances. The audience was also encouraged to participate in several raffles for prizes ranging from gift certificates donated by local businesses to dinner dates with Chi O sisters. All the money collected from the event and raffle was sent to Make-A-Wish.  This past fall, Omicron Beta expanded their efforts to raise money for their philanthropy The Make-A-Wish Foundation. The sisters hosted the first annual event, Chi O - Wings for Wishes, in which many students participated in an all you can eat wing event. Wings for Wishes was a great addition to our philanthropic events, and the Omicron Beta chapter will definitely host the event again next year.   DSC03492.JPG

Omicron Beta has made leaps and bounds in thier relationship with Make-A-Wish this past year. With Joanna Sandager as the philanthropy chair, we have been able to participate in not one, but TWO wish grants. We are proud of our accomplishments and continue to find new ways to become involved.
