Make-A-Wish Foundation
The Make-A-Wish Foundation is Chi Omega Fraternity's National Philanthropy. Since the start of our alliance, Chi Omegas have made a difference in many children's lives through volunteering time, talents, and dollars. The Make-A-Wish Foundation has honored Chi Omega for the incredible volunteer efforts of our members.
Our Story
It all began on April 5, 1895, at the University of Arkansas when four young women, with the help of a local dentist, established the secrets and symbolism that today bind over 260,000 women. This small band of women founded Chi Omega after realizing a need for an organization that would foster both friendship and respect for the potential and inherent value of women. Over the years, Chi Omega has provided its members with unique opportunities in leadership, scholarship, and lifelong friendship - striving to provide each Sister with a commitment to personal integrity, excellence in academic and intellectual pursuits, intergenerational participation, community service, leadership opportunities and social enrichment.

Lindsay and Family

Name:
Lindsay Van Hook Barnes
Age: 28
Hometown: Chandler, Arizona
Year you joined Chi Omega: 1999
Active Chapter Affiliation: Psi Epsilon (Go Sun Devils!!)
Year you went Alum: 2003
Degree: Psychology
Graduation Date: May 2003
Current profession: Resale & Disclosure Manager
Are you married? Yes
If yes, how long? Going on 6 years
Do you have kids? Yes
If yes, how many? 1.5 :) We have a 2 year old Connor and one on the way!
Why you joined Chi Omega: I left high school retaining many friendships but was looking for a way to make the huge campus of Arizona State seem a bit smaller. I had a few close girlfriends who had joined sororities and highly recommended it.  No one in my family had "gone greek" so I didn't have any ties to one chapter over another. After going through the exhausting recruitment I knew I'd found my home for  the next four years... and long after! Chi Omega made my college experience complete!
Active chapter positions held: Housing, Philanthropy Chair
Current alum chapter position: Alumnae Chapter President, Area Recruitment Information Chair, Psi Epsilon Chapter Advisor, Book Club Chair
Favorite Chi Omega memory: Everything during college was a blast, but I think that I truly enjoy being an alumna even more! If you haven't had a chance to get involved with the alumnae group, please do! We have events, activities and subgroups for everyone... and if you're interested in something we don't yet have let us know.. We're always looking for Sisters to get involved.
Personal Motto: Cram as much into your life as possible until you stop enjoying every single thing you do...then it's time to take a step back, evaluate what you spend your time doing and find what you enjoy most.
Favorite Quote: I may disagree with what you say, But I will defend to death your right to say it!
~Voltare
Favorite Book: The Valley Alum Book Club has picked some great ones including Garden Spells, Piece of Cake, The House on Tradd Street and Hunger Games. I enjoy David Sedaris and Rodney Ratham as well. Love guilty pleasure books like cheesy romances and chick-lit too!
Favorite Color: Green
Favorite Movies: Twilight, Sweet Home Alabama, Hangover, Best in Show
Favorite Food: Good Mexican food, chocolate chip cookie dough and chees-these choices could very well be affected by my pregnancy right now though!
Favorite Hobbies: I love spending time with my family and friends. Because my husband and I are both Arizona natives, we are fortunate to have most of our family here in Arizona.  Being the President of the Valley Chi Omega Alumnae Group is an amazing opportunity and a great way to stay involved with both the collegiate chapter as well as the alumnae group.
Favorite Sports/Sports Teams: My husband works for the Diamondbacks so I should probably say them...but I'm a football girl and love my 49ers!
Best College Memory (non-Chi Omega): I loved going to ASU football games, hiking A mountain, and buying our first house.
Anything else you want to share: I would really encourage each and every alumna to get involved with the alumnae group.  It really doesn't matter how involved you were in college-I never held an executive board position while in college.  Chi Omega truly is for a lifetime and shouldn't be limited to the time spent as a collegiate member. Get involved!
