Members
Each month we will spotlight members of the chapter in this section.

Julie (Fry) Mennel, President

College, year initiated:
Ball State 2003

Current job:  Second grade teacher at Little Flower Catholic School

Why did you join Chi Omega?  The girls in Chi Omega were so sweet and welcoming I instantly felt like part of the family. Not to mention, I had 3 Aunts who were Chi O's at BSU (There are now 6 in my family who were Phi Epsilon Chi Omegas!)

Favorite Chi Omega memory?  I would say Watermelon Bust was always a blast! We would practice each year before the day. I also loved my candle passing because I kept it hidden from everyone including my 5 Chi O roommates.

Why did you join the alumnae chapter?  I thought it would be a great way to stay connected to Chi Omega. It made my college life great and I wasn't ready to let go.

What does your role as president entail?  I help plan our monthly functions, I am a liaison between the Indianapolis Alumnae Chapter and Nationals, and I help do rif forms.

Hobbies?  Cooking, shopping, reading, hanging out with my husband

Favorite thing to do in Indianapolis?  I live in Broad Ripple so I love shopping there. Going to the park to play volleyball, or simply walking to dinner.

Our Story
It all began on April 5, 1895, at the University of Arkansas when four young women, with the help of a local dentist, established the secrets and symbolism that today bind over 260,000 women. This small band of women founded Chi Omega after realizing a need for an organization that would foster both friendship and respect for the potential and inherent value of women. Over the years, Chi Omega has provided its members with unique opportunities in leadership, scholarship, and lifelong friendship - striving to provide each Sister with a commitment to personal integrity, excellence in academic and intellectual pursuits, intergenerational participation, community service, leadership opportunities and social enrichment.
Service
Community Service means that we want to make a difference on our campuses and in our communities.  We know that giving back to others unselfishly makes the world a better place and makes us better people.   Serving and giving helps to connect us.Click 'read' in the top right corner of this box to learn how Indianapolis Chi Omega Alumnae are working to benefit central Indiana.

Past Philanthropy Projects

  • November brings the annual Z99.5 Request-A-Thon to benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation. Members from the alumnae chapter will be covering a two-hour shift, answering phones and taking pledges for donations. For more information, see the Make-A-Wish Foundation box on our chapter's homepage.
  • The October chapter event will feature a food drive to benefit Gleaner's Food Bank. Members in attendance are asked to bring an item or items from the Gleaner's wish list to donate. See the October event details in the calendar section of this website for more information.
  • At the September 2008 New Member Event, alumnae gave over $200 to Ronald McDonald House of Indiana and brought 80 items from the organization's wishlist to be donated.

Do You know One of the 47,000 Lost Sisters?
  • What is a Lost Sister? An alumna in good standing who does not have their contact updated in the national database.

  • Why is it important to find Lost Sisters? These Chi Omegas are not receiving The Eleusis, your chapter mailings or any Chi Omega updates.

  • How do I view the Lost Sisters list? An Excel spreadsheet of our lost sisters is posted on www.ChiOmega.com/EveryDay under "Resource Center - Lost Sisters." The list is in alphabetical order by chapter and then sorted by initiation date. There are more than 47,000 names, so the file is quite large. You can easily download the file to your own computer.
