Activities
Participation in Activities develops us into well-rounded people.  We engage with others to develop outside interests and expose us to new and differing points of view.   By contributing in the larger world, we demonstrate that Chi Omega makes a difference in the lives of women.

A favorite new West Side activity is our Book Club, which meets in even-numbered months at Starbuck's in Rocky River and is headed up by Connie Macko.

Make-A-Wish Foundation
The Make-A-Wish Foundation is Chi Omega Fraternity's National Philanthropy. Since the start of our alliance, Chi Omegas have made a difference in many children's lives through volunteering time, talents, and dollars. The Make-A-Wish Foundation has honored Chi Omega for the incredible volunteer efforts of our members.

Cleveland Alumnae have participated in the Walk for Wishes at the Cleveland Zoo for the last seven years along with our collegians from Kent State and John Carroll.  Big thanks to West Side Philanthropy Chair Cathy Bajic for coordinating our T-shirt sale and for setting up our Walk site this year.

The Walk is over for 2010, but you can still donate at

Amy McMullen far exceeded her personal goal of $6,000 in honor of her late sister Heather, a Wish Child who passed away 15 years ago. Amy's tenacity and generous friends are incredible . Our team total was near $8,000 as of July 1.

Here are just a few of the Chi Omegas who walked for wishes: Alumnae, Upsilon Mus, and Lambda Deltas.

Our Story
It all began on April 5, 1895, at the University of Arkansas when four young women, with the help of a local dentist, established the secrets and symbolism that today bind over 260,000 women. This small band of women founded Chi Omega after realizing a need for an organization that would foster both friendship and respect for the potential and inherent value of women. Over the years, Chi Omega has provided its members with unique opportunities in leadership, scholarship, and lifelong friendship - striving to provide each Sister with a commitment to personal integrity, excellence in academic and intellectual pursuits, intergenerational participation, community service, leadership opportunities and social enrichment.

At Cleveland West we take great pride in our 58 year history. Thanks to long-time chapter historian Virginia Davis Royer, Delta Gamma/Denison University, for recording it. Click here for an abbreviated version.

Symbols
Chi Omega’s symbols are a visual representation of our purposes and ideals.

Sandy and Owl.jpg

Our sister Sandy Carson, an alumna of Zeta Alpha/Ohio State, loves our mascot in any form from the wonderful owl jewelry she wears to the small figures she's tucked into spots all round her home in Rocky River, OH. She is a true devotee of the majestic bird. Back in spring 2004 she had what she calls her "ultimate owl experience"!

"Russ and I went up to Boulder, CO, to shop on the gorgeous, bricked Pearl Street, a virtual entertainment, restaurant, and shopping mecca. While walking nearby we found this marvelous sculpture standing in front of a house. Russ ran to the car and grabbed the camera. A workman on the porch told us the artist's name is Bellows. It was one of those serendipitous moments. Both Russ and I were tickled to have had the opportunity to see it."
